Tamanu Oil
Tamanu oil is a remarkable topical healing agent with anti-neuralgic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antibiotic and anti-oxidant properties. Tamanu oil’s botanical name is Calophyllum Acamahaca and/or Calophyllum Inophyllum. The Tamanu tree is indigenous to tropical Southeast Asia and the Polynesian islands. It is a safe agent when applied to the skin; there never have been any reports of adverse effects from topical applications. Traditional medicine recommends Tamanu oil for scar tissue, softening its appearance. Tamanu is so soothing, it can be applied directly to the skin, undiluted. We are using it in our Calming Cream and Green Serum.
Camellia Oil
Camellia oil comes from a plant native to Jeju Island which is famous for being both unpolluted and unspoiled, so much so it is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Recent scientific studies report the oil has anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory effects which explain why it is soothing when used on reddened erythemal skin. Traditional medicine recommends the oil for whitening the skin. We use Camellia oil as a base ingredient in almost all our formulations.
Kiwi Fruit Seed Oil/Extract
Kiwi fruit seed oil or Kiwi Fruit extract is sourced from New Zealand Kiwi plants. It contains more than 60% Alpha Linolenic Acid, more commonly known as OMEGA –3, an important essential fatty acid which research has shown to be effective in skin cell renewal. The oil can aid in the treatment of skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. We use the oil in our Intensive Cream and Day Protection Cream.
Macadamia Nut Oil
Macadamia nut oil is a natural moisturizer and emollient (emollients attract and trap moisture from the air). It is also amazingly nutritious — a great source of calcium, B complex, phosphorus and iron. It contains 73-80% mono-unsaturated fatty acids, for instance palmitoleic acid (an Omega 7 fatty acid). Macadamia oil is light and non-greasy so it is easily absorbed into the skin. Another gift of macadamia nut oil is that it contains beneficial proteins and its vitamin E content contributes to both skin-care and long shelf life. The high count of mono-unsaturated fatty acids makes the oil mimic sebum (oil produced naturally by our skin – including the scalp – which protects it from damage). All of these qualities contribute to Macadamia oil’s reputation as a superb skin treat, as well as an elixir for healing scars, wounds, sunburn and irritations. We include this rich oil in our Intensive Cream, Two-in-One Cream, Hydration Plus and Calming Cream.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is a liquid wax from the seed of the jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) plant. Jojoba oil isresistant to oxidation; it is naturally antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, hypo-allergenic, analgesic and contains powerful antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. The molecules of Jojoba have a unique shape that allows Jojoba to be absorbed into skin cells dissolving dried sebum and creating a deeply moisturising protective barrier across the skin. The unique molecular structure of Jojoba is almost identical to the sebum in human skin that naturally cleanses and moisturises. Our skin cells recognise Jojoba as ‘normal’, allowing it to sooth, nourish and moisturise like no other substance on earth. deNovo uses Jojoba oil for our Day protection, Hydration Plus and Monsoon Cream Bar.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is extracted from the meat of matured coconuts harvested from the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) in Oceania. Coconut oil is considered to be a therapeutic oil because it is not only highly moisturizing, but also it is rich in proteins and sinks into the skin very quickly. deNovo incorporates the oil in our Intensive formula and Calming Cream.
Mamaku (Fern) Extract
Mamaku (fern) extract is derived from the mamaku, or black tree fern, that grows in New Zealand and the South Sea islands. Mamaku contains a powerful healing extract that has been used by Māori for centuries for wound treatment. deNovo has this rare powerful healing agent in the Intensive, Day Protection, Plant Serum and Calming creams to soothe and revive skin.
Totarol
Totarol is a compound from the heartwood of the Totara tree which makes the wood extremely resistant to decay due to its anti-microbial and potent anti-oxidant activity. The compound is extracted from recycled Totara using supercritical solvent-free extraction, so no trees are felled for its harvesting. deNovo uses Totarol in the Calming Cream as a potent anti-inflammatory agent to help treating problem skin.
Propolis
Bees combine plant nectars with their own enzymes to produce Propolis for anti-viral and anti-microbial protection of beehives. New Zealand Propolis has incredibly powerful healing properties. In fact, New Zealand Propolis has been measured in scientific research as being up to 5 times stronger medicinally compared to Propolis from other geographical areas. deNovo uses New Zealand Propolis in the Calming Cream to help treating skin irritations and inflammations.
Mallotus Japonicas Bark Extract
Mallotus japonicas bark extract contains a composition of active ingredients for inhibiting theactivity of elastase – the enzyme that degrades our skin elastin. The extract is proven to promote a collagen biosynthesis and decreases wrinkles. The plant extract is used in deNovo Intensive formula and Hydration Plus to help fighting wrinkles and to support youthful skinscape.
Mulberry Extract
Mulberry extract is found in the roots of the Mulberry (Kuwa) tree, and is well known in Chinese medicine. It is rich in phenylflavones with strong whitening (Kuwanon) and anti-inflammatory properties. deNovo uses Mulberry extract in the Intensive formula and Hydration Plus for skin clearing and soothing.
deNovo enhances the activity of the formulations with specially selected bioactive molecules.
Tetraisopalmitate
Tetraisopalmitate is a special form of Vitamin C. Unfortunately usage of pure vitamin C – ascorbic acid – has some limitations. One of them is the fragility of the substance. That is why we specify a stable form of vitamin C which is bioavailable and easily penetrates the skin (technically, we would say it has superior percutaneous absorption). Vitamin C inhibits activity of intracellular tyrosinase and melanogenesis (processing of skin pigment), reduces UV-induced cell and DNA damage (UVprotection, anti-stress), prevents lipid peroxidation and skin-aging (anti-oxidant). It also enhancescollagen synthesis and collagen protection (more anti-aging). It is considered to be a quasi-drug and it has been clinically tested in medical research. This is deNovo favourite star ingredient and is put it in all the formulations to soothe and clarify the skin, to help fighting wrinkles and uneven tone.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is the main antioxidant molecule in our bodies. Vitamin E breaks the oxidative chain reactions initiated by external factors such as UV rays, pollution, and stress. After any of these adverse reactions, vitamin E is restored in the presence of vitamin C. Vitamin E protects DNA in the skin from free radicals and decreases abnormal links between collagen fibres leading to skin elasticity loss. Vitamin E is in all deNovo formulations to act in synergy with vitamin C in fighting sign of aging – uneven tone, wrinkles and dryness.
Panthenol
Panthenol is a precursor of vitamin B. Panthenol moisturises the stratum corneum (outer layer of the skin) and decreases trans-epidermal water loss. It is used in skin healing balms. deNovo uses this wonderful vitamin in all the products to help healing processes in the skin.
Bisabolol
Bisabolol is an active constituent extracted from camomile also known as levomenol. It restores the appearance of dehydrated or damaged skin by reducing dry flaking and brings back the natural suppleness of the skin. Traditional medicine advocates its use for its anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Because of its high panthenol concentration, it can effectively stimulate and promote the skin’s healing process. It also increases the skin penetration of other cosmeticingredients, which can be particularly useful when feeding the skin antioxidants. We use it in all ourformulations.
Trehalose
Trehalose is a natural disaccharide (a type of sugar) produced from starch by enzymatic processes. Trehalose is involved in anhydrobiosis (the ability of plants and animals to withstand prolonged dry periods). It has high water retention capabilities. The sugar is thought to form a gel phase which prevents disruption of internal cell organelles. Trehalose has the added advantage of being an antioxidant. We put Trehalose in our Hydration Plus formula.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a major component of skin where it is involved in tissue repair. Once the skin is excessively exposed to UVB rays, it becomes inflamed when the cells in the dermis cannot produce enough hyaluronic acid; this process increases the rate of the skin’s degradation. We use a special form of Hyaluronic acid that readily penetrates the skin and has powerful moisturising, anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory effects. Our Calming Cream and Hydration Plus creams contain Hyaluronic acid.
Eyeseril
This tetrapeptide reduces puffiness and increases skin elasticity (+30% in 1 month) around the fragile eye area. It also lightens dark circles and rejuvenates the look. Its decongesting properties fight against edema formation as a result of poor lymphatic circulation or high capillary permeability. It inhibits collagen glycation, preventing the loss of elasticity and eyebag formation.
Amino Acids
We use a special composition of amino acids (natural components of all live organisms) that mimics natural moisturising factor to keep skin younger and suppler.
